Best way off the tourist trail?
I've done some backpacking in SEA and realise that between the larger cities i.e. Siem Reap - Phnom Penh Luang Prabang - Vang Vieng - Vientiane and the numerous larger Vietnamese cities, the transport infrastructure is more than sufficient. But how does one visit the smaller more obscure villages and markets, not referring to organised day trips but rather, transportation to those places.
I've often seen vlogs or blogs about people visiting smaller obscure/ off the tourist trail villages 2hours outside Luang Prabang or 3hours on the outskirts of Hanoi etc. but never really figured how
1) they manage to hear about/find out about those places
2) arrange transport to those places that are not "day trips"
3) get accommodation
The only way i could think of is to hire a rather pricey personal one way transport to drop me off. Also, once at these places, how does one typically find accommodation. I'm not the super picky kind, but i'd prefer a bed, electricity and most importantly a roof.
Would love to hear the community's experiences and advice on this!
