Advice on hiking in Kyrgyzstan
I’ll be in Central Asia in August and am keen on hiking from Karakol to Altyn Arashan (via Ala-Kol lake). I’m not a super experienced hiker but everything I’ve read seems to suggest that this is a popular route so a guide isn’t necessary.
I’ve read there’s a tented camp near Ala-Kol and a guesthouse near the hot springs at Altyn Arashan but details are a little sketchy about the former. I’d prefer not to carry a tent or stove - is it too naive to think I can rock up at a tent camp and pay for a tent and food? Should I just splash the cash on a tour, especially considering as a solo traveller costs go up considerably when booking such things?
