8 week, Western USA Road Trip! Route check. Map inside. Is our Utah/New Mexico/Arizona section ridiculous or not?
My girlfriend and I, from the UK, will be doing this trip from mid-August to mid-October, lasting 8 full weeks. Current ROUTE MAP. Not set in stone, of course. We'll be starting and finishing in San Francisco and heading up North first for a clockwise route.
The CO to UT to NM to AZ section does seem a bit back and forth but it's so hard to fit everything in. Is it too ridiculous or is it worth the effort?
The other odd section would be the tangent up to North East Colorado and then into South Dakota, primarily because we want to include Devils Tower and Mount Rushmore as they're so iconic and we're film nuts. This is a section I can see ourselves cutting off though depending on how our time is going.
Here are a list of places we hope to include in route order:
San Francisco, CA
Mendocino, CA
Eureka, CA
Crater Lake National Park, OR
Bend, OR
Willamette Valley, OR
Portland, OR
Olympic National Park, OR
Seattle, WA
Glacier National Park, MT
Sawtooth National Forest, ID
Craters of the Moon, ID
Yellowstone National Park, WY
Grand Teton National Park, WY
Wind River Reservation, WY
Devils Tower, WY
Mount Rushmore, SD
Black Hills National Forest, SD
Boulder, CO
Denver, CO
Great Sand Dunes National Park, CO
Durango/Silverton, CO
Arches National Park, UT
Monument Valley, AZ
Albuquerque/Santa Fe/Taos, NM
Flagstaff, AZ
Zion National Park, UT
Las Vegas, NV
Death Valley National Park, CA
Los Angeles, CA
Californian Coast to Morro Bay, CA
Yosemite National Park, CA
San Francisco, CA
Any feedback would be much appreciated and thank you in advance!
