Living in hostels on a long term basis
Some background:
Im a 26yr old female high school teacher and I’m planning on spending next year in London. I’ve been accepted into a supply teaching program that allows me to choose which days I work (guaranteed supply) and pays over £150/day!
My plan is to spend the year travelling extensively- since the UK is so close to the rest of the world (I’m from Australia) - and teach a day here and there as some spending money :)
My dilemma is that the cheapest room I can find in London costs £100/week - usually for a minimum of 3-6 months on a contract. Considering that I’m barely planning on staying in London and teaching for more than 1 -2 weeks at a time, do you think it’s worth it?
A reasonable hostel in London costs about $25AUD/night, which translates to about £99/week.
My question: Has anyone ever hostel hopped long term?
I’ve stayed in hostels a lot while travelling and despite the lack of privacy, the possibility of theft and occasionally icky conditions - I found it fine.
I’m pretty low maintenance I guess.
I feel like I’d rather spend my money on tours around europe than an apartment that will stay empty most of the time.
What do you think??
