I'm planning my first solo travel. A week in Italy and a week in Germany in the winter. Any tips for things i must go see? Any general advice?
Hello! I decided to finally scratch my travelling itch by going for the first time to Europe in january. I have never travelled alone before. I am one more of those people who does not leave home much, so the ideia of solo travelling for me is frightening. I don't know if i will be able to meet anyone or make friends, i don't know if i will enjoy myself enough to make it worth it, i don't know if i'll be able to take care of myself, yada yada. But i am willing to go and find out.
I picked Italy and Germany because i am a history and culture nerd. So i don't think i need to say anymore. I am all open for ideas. But the general itinerary i have planned is:
I'll start off by arriving in Rome, stay there for a few days to absorb all i can from the city. Then i'll go up Italy's western coast through the charming small coastal cities up until i hit Milan. I don't plan on staying in Milan, but i want to travel through northern Italy an see some small towns, the alps, those turqoise blue lakes. Eventually i'll reach Venice, get to know the city, but probably not stay there for a night. And i'm off to Wien.
I don't know how long i want to stay in Wien. But after that, i plan on going to southern Germany and make my way up through Bayern. Eventually i want to reach Berlin and stay there for a few days absorbing the city. I don't know yet how viable that is in january, specially since i'm not from a cold country (I've never even seen the snow).
I also have to fit into my itinerary a day or two in Hamburg. I have a friend there who i'll want to visit. I could have my last place be either Hamburg or Berlin depending on the flights.
Is my itinerary reasonable for two weeks? Or are two weeks too little for that? For now my biggest doubt is about the transports. For example, i want to experience all i can from the travels within Italy. But i plan on doing that entirely through bus or train. Will i have any time to actually experience anything this way? In the case i don't plan exactly where to stop at, is it also reasonable to belive i'll find a hostel in each place outside of the big towns for me to stop for the night?
I belive many more specific questions will emerge once i really start all the planning. I still have no idea on how much clothes will i need, how many luggage, how will i transport my money, and more. But each of that for it's time.
Also, i plan on having around 100 euros for each day, that will need to do for food, sleeping and transportation. I am realistic here?
I'll very thankful for every piece of information i can get.
