How does my budget for 40 days in Peru look?
Flights, vaccinations, insurance, ect. will all be taken care of before I leave, and this is just the budget for while I'm there. I'll be staying 40 days, May 30 - July 9. I'm flying into Lima, then my tentative itinerary is Lima -> Pisco/Paracas/Huacachina -> Arequipa -> Puno -> Cusco-> Lima -> Huaraz -> Máncora (might do a day in Chiclayo or Trujillo on the way from Huaraz to Máncora) then back to Lima to fly out. Below is how I came up with my budget, all in USD:
I estimated about $30/day for food, lodging, and entertainment/attractions for all locations except Huaraz, where I said $35-40. Transportation looked like it'd be around $270 for busses between all locations except Cusco->Lima, where I'll fly. I budgeted $150 seperately for Machu Picchu, then assumed about $300/trek in Huaraz/Arequipa. I'm looking at maybe 3 treks or so, which comes out to $1050 for treks and Machu Picchu. I didn't eliminate the per day cost on these days just to be safe, so I still planned $30/day even for trekking days. For 40 nights, I came up with $2715 by adding together transportation, daily costs, treks, and Machu Picchu. I then added 20% just to be safe, and got $3258.
How does $3258 USD for 40 days in Peru (and maybe Ecuador if I have extra time by the time I'm in Máncora) sound? Is there anything major I'm missing? Any general tips on how you like to create budgets for trips?
Thanks! :)
