First Time Solo Trip - MA to Chattanooga, TN
I've been planning with a friend of mine for ages now to come and visit him in Tennessee, and this August is when I finally want to pull the trigger and spend a weekend. Seeing as a flight would be in the $200 ballpark (and as much as I love traveling, flying not so much) I wanted to ask you folks how I might be able to go about this.
I'd be driving a 2009 Volkswagen Passat, presuming nothing dramatic happens in the next four months to damage it, and my first idea was to drive from my home in Massachusetts down to Tennessee in a day - about sixteen hours. The closest I've ever come to something like this was driving from San Jose down to San Bernardino (what was supposed to be seven hours ended up around eleven, since we tried what was left of the Pacific Coast Highway), and that was with my girlfriend.
Since I'm not looking to see any sights/spend any more time away from A-to-B than I have to, would a single day's drive be viable? Or would I be better off getting lodging halfway through to spend a night?
