First big one, Washington State to Florida
My SO is enlisted and we are being transferred from WA to VA, and plan on driving to family in Florida during the leave period. We are leaving eastern WA on June 23rd and want to be in Florida before July 4th. We will be driving my 2016 Kia Forte.
I’ve taken road trips from WA to CA a few times but nothing to the extent of cross country. He’s made this same trip once before, when he first joined and got stationed in WA, but that was before he got his license so he didn’t plan or drive at all, just hitched a ride with a buddy.
I’ve made a basic template for the trip on [Roadtrippers](roadtrippers.com) which is fantastic in regard to planning everything but I feel like it will only get us so far journey wise, if you know what I mean.
We have two planned stops along the way, The Grand Canyon and New Orleans, so there is a limit on route options. Since I’m not well traveled, I haven’t seen much of the US, I would like some ideas of other places to see and things to do along the way.
We plan on camping instead of staying in motels, we enjoy camping and saving money so it seems like a win win in that aspect, however budget isn’t too much of a worry for this trip. I’ve made note of a few places to camp along the way, but any actual recommendations would be more than appreciated.
The last thing I was hoping to get help with is what we should bring. Since it’s a military move, we have to send most of our belongings with a moving company but likely won’t get any of it for a couple months, so we need to bring basics for a way of life until then. Which means we have to pack not only just for the road trip but also for a month or so of everyday life when we get to where we’re going.
Thank you for any and all help!
