Erzurum or Kars?
Hi all! Planning a long train trip between Tbilisi and Istanbul via train by my lonesome. Well, except of course, that between Batumi and Erzurum or Kars will be a combo of buses and dolmus and whatever I get my hands on. I've been mostly going off the advice on Man in Seat 61, so if anyone has done this journey other advice and stories very welcome.
It seems to be about the same from the border to Erzurum or Kars. Train to Ankara stops at both. So which is nicer for an evening? Am slightly leaning towards Kars because it'd be fun to see the setting of Pamuk's Snow. But the internet would suggest Erzurum has slightly more options in terms of guesthouses. This would be early June so I think either way I'd probably be safe.
(I am sure there are better bus networks, but this is part of a larger love affair with trains, so not looking to be dissuaded on that count.)
