2 weeks-ish through New England
Hi all,
So my spouse and I want to do a 2 week-ish road trip in late September from our home in Philadelphia, to every state in New England. We did a similar trip through the Deep South once, and we love road trips.
This time, we want to hit the Berkshires, the Green Mountains, Burlington, the White Mountains and Mt. Washington, Bar Harbor, Portland, Portsmouth, Provincetown, Providence (lots of P cities), and Old Saybrook.
I'm looking for some advice.
So here's the preliminary schedule:
Day 1: Philly -> .. somewhere between Philly and Burlington, VT (or, drive straight through; gonna be 9-10 hours but would save us a day)
Day 2: drive through Berkshires, continue up route 7 to Burlington, VT
Day 3-4: chill in Burlington, maybe hit Lake Placid for a day
Day 5: Burlington -> Jackson, NH
Day 6: Jackson -> Bar Harbor, ME
Day 7-8: Bar Harbor
Day 9: Bar Harbor -> Portland, ME
Day 10: Portland
Day 11: Portland -> Portsmouth, NH
Day 12: Portsmouth -> Provincetown, MA
Day 13: Provincetown
Day 14: Provincetown -> Providence, RI
Day 15: Providence -> Old Saybrook, CT
Day 16: come home
Questions:
Are the Berkshires worth it? It takes us a bit out of our way.
Any tips on a good place to stop between Philly and Burlington? I've looked at West Point and Catskill.
Are these all good places to visit in your opinion?
Any recommendations on food/craft beer/sightseeing/etc.?
Are we going to avoid the high tourist season of summer as well as the leaf peeper season?
Are there places we should devote more/less time to?
