11 day Peru Itinerary
Hi all,
I’m headed to Peru in about a month (May 25th-June 5th) and want to nail down my itinerary. I’ll be there for 11 days and plan on flying between cities. My current plan is as follows:
Day 1 – Arrive in Cusco 11AM, Spend day exploring city (Night in Cusco)
Day 2 – Travel to Moray/Maras + Ollytaytambo (Night in Ollytaytambo)
Day 3 – Morning train & bus up to Machu Picchu (Night in AC)
Day 4 – Train back to Cusco little more time in the city or close by sites (Night in Cusco)
Day 5 – Flight to Arequipa, explore city (Night in Arequipa)
Day 6 – Begin 2 day hike in Colca Canyon (Night on trail)
Day 7 – End 2 day hike (Night in Arequipa)
Day 8 – Full day in Arequipa (Night in Arequipa)
Day 9 – Flight to Lima, explore city
Day 10 – Explore Lima
Day 11 – Explore Lima
Day 12 - Fly Home

Should I try to make it to AC the night before MP and head to straight to Cusco after MP that evening? (effectively making my nights as: Cusco, AC, Cusco, Cusco).

Anyone know what customs is like in Cusco? Long line, short line? I'll be arriving from Bogota.
I’m generally happy with my current plan but due to my time limit I’m obviously missing things that I’d love to be able to visit, namely Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain day-trip) and Huacachina. Vinicunca sounds fun but I just don’t think it could would work into my schedule well. I’m bummed about missing Huacachina but without sacrificing my recovery day after my hike I think I’m out of luck. Such is the life of a 9to5er trying to squeeze trips in on 17 days PTO… I know the speed of this trip is faster than the majority of this sub likes but a city every 3 or 4 days is pretty typical for me and it's a pace I'm totally comfortable with.
Any recommendations or tweaks would be appreciated (As well as hostel recommendations). Nothing is set in stone yet but needs to be soon. Thanks!
Edit: I have considered PeruHop, but due to my time constraints, I think it would leave me: very tired, only 1 day in Lima, and missing the 2 days Canyon trek.
