Viability + comments on my proposed European solo trip for next year? Safety + ideas on what to see. Hungary (Budapest) > Romania (Bucharest) > Bulgaria (Sofia)

I completed my first solo trip a few weeks ago and adored it, I really liked the feeling of accomplishment and freedom. Booking and planning and going by myself and not having it fuck up. Decided to try again for next year (I would consider going this year, but with a trip in march, a trip with family in July, my finances are thin) and I'd like to do an Eastern European tour, always been on my list, to do from Estonia, right down to Croatia, but broken into smaller legs.

I'm hoping to do the countries in title. Fly out (from UK), have 3 full days there, with a day trip by train to somewhere else. Then day 5 I get the day train to Bucharest, 4 days there, at least one day trip (I have a friend in the city so would spend time with her hence the extra day) and then train down to Sofia for 3 full days there. Final day it would be plane to back home.

My questions aren't too specific, any help would be appreciated, I've done and will be doing a lot of research, but I've read lots on here that has helped, as opposed to just random forum threads.

Is it safe to travel solo? I wouldn't be going wild, would be home before dark. Intending to go second two weeks in April (I know its very premature but I'm keen tbh) and very little experience on trains

How prevalent is English? I would get phrasebooks and try and learn a bit of it, but is it possible to get by, and find directions as a pretty dumb bloke in regards to navigation? Buying tickets and things, would it be possible to communicate easily?

Prices, I'd imagine will be cheaper for food, hotels won't be too much, but I'm aiming for decent hotels (as opposed to hostels) near the city centre to aid walking) so it won't be outrageous as I would target a decent range. Trains I've not found prices for and I've just realised I've no clue about currencies in the countries either

I know its frowned upon in this sub but any suggestions, more for day trips, than things to do in the cities would be appreciated, I was thinking Brasov for one, but it will depend on ability to get there.

Essentially just any insight you could give, on the area, things I may need to keep an eye on, this is a infinitely bigger solo trip than my first jaunt, which was just a road trip to a few cities so just looking for any suggestions anyone has. thanks very much
