Us road trip advice
Myself and a friend are coming from the U.K. hopefully around May for little road trip around the southwestern states. The rough route I’ve figured is starting in Phoenix, heading up the 93 to Vegas, making our way through Death Valley on the 190, then the 395 up to Reno, maybe diverging for Yosemite. From Reno over to Salt Lake City via the 50, 93 and 80. From SLS we’d head down the 6, 191 to monument valley, Grand Canyon then back to where we started.
We want to do this in about 12 days. Too ambitious?
We can always cut short at the end and make a dash back to the airport if need be, I’d prefer a more leisurely pace and thought we could do this with 3-4 hours driving a day and be slightly whimsical in our start and stop times, stopping if we want to etc. I’m from the U.K., so I’m used to driving from one side of my country to the other in 10 hours, so I’ve probably been way too ambitious!
Also trying to stay of interstates and stay in motels where possible, rather than big chains.
Car wise, we’re looking at getting a Dodge Challenger or similar, our thinking being if we’re doing a US road trip, what’s the point in having a European style car!? Might as well spend some money for American Muscle.
Any pointers? Anything I’ve massively overlooked? Primarily this is a bit of a photography trip. Money wise, we’re not on a particularly tight budget, we’re willing to spend a bit more on petrol to accommodate the car.
Thanks!
