Ultimate West Coast road trip: Itinerary review request
So this is for my friend visiting the US for the first time. I asked earlier and was advised to pick West Coast over the Mid West. Here is the trip plan:
Starting point: SLC (they're visiting friends there)
Day 1-2: Salt lake city to Winnemuca (sleep in Winnemuca)
Day 2-4: Drive to SF. Two nights in SF.
Day 4-5: Driving Big Sur to LA. Staying somewhere along the road. I hear the road is closed midway so they will switch to the interstate at that point.
Day 5-9: 4 nights in LA. They wanted to spend more at any one place and I thought LA fit the bill.
Day 9-10: Drive to LV and spend one night there.
Day 10-12: Two nights at Zion National Park.
Day 12: Since we're only 4 hours from SLC at this point might as well go there and avoid the one way drop off fees for rental car.
A couple of points...
-
Is the PCH worth spending the day there or save time and take the interstate?
-
I've picked out Zion because I think its pretty good and Yosemite is too crowded/impossible to find accommodation.
-
Should they skip LV and head straight to Zion? How about DVNP->Zion?
Any other comments or critiques do let me know!
