Two months in Peru, Bolivia and Chile at the end of 2018
Hi all! Dutch guy here, looking into going to South America at the end of this year.
Because I have stuff to take care of until October, and want to be back before Christmas, I've got around 8,5 weeks to go around. Big must sees for me are Cusco and surrounds and Patagonia, at least including Torres del Paine. So far, my broad itinerary looks like this:
- ~30 October, arrive Lima, spend a few days to settle and get rid of jetlag.
- ~3/4/5 November onwards to Cusco and surrounding area for a 1.5 weeks, maybe do the Inca trail to Machu Picchu (not sure about this)
- ~17/18 November travel through to La Paz, possibly hitting Lake Titicaca on the way.
- ~20/21 November to ~6/7 December to check out Salar de Uyuni and the Sajama/Lauca national parks, fly to Santiago from Arica or Iquique.
- Few days in Santiago area (most likely, Valparaíso).
- ~11/12 December, fly to Punta Arenas, until 23/24 December to check out Patagonia.
- 23/24 December fly back home.
I've got nothing booked yet, however I noticed the trail to Machu Picchu to fill up fast for October, so I shouldn't wait to long with deciding if I want to go through with that.
Now, the big questions: I've got around 3500€ or a little over 4000USD to play with including flights. Setting aside roughly 1000$ for that, where on the scale of 1 to 10 would that leave me with regard to comfort, 1 being absolute broke backpacker style, 10 being luxury hotels? In other words, what does 50USD/day buy me in that part of the world, and do you think it's feasible to pull off my wish list with that budget?
Thanks very much in advance for any tips you may have.
