Struggling with solo travel

As a bit of background I have just flown halfway across the world to start a 6+ month solo adventure in the UK and Europe. I have never travelled solo before, I have little to no plans for my time here, and don’t have any contacts here at all.

I landed in London and yesterday afternoon confident and ready to go, but immediately ran into issues, the border control agent was not impressed by my lack of planning or a place to stay and I was separated from the other passengers and held at the border for about an hour while they decided whether they would let me in. This was a huge shock to me as I had never anticipated anything like this and assumed there wouldn’t be any issues with someone just winging it while travelling around the UK for a month.

Finally they made their decision and I was allowed to enter the UK, I got on the underground, found a hostel to stay in and had a good first night.

I woke this morning feeling good and decided to go for a quick walk after breakfast. During this walk I had a bit of an emotional crisis/breakdown and now I feel like shit and like I might burst into tears at any time.

I don’t know what the root of the problem is here, whether it is the stress from my border crossing experience or just the fact that I know nobody here, but I am just not coping very well.

What do you guys do in a time like this? What suggestions would you have for a first time traveller like myself for getting through these first few days?
