Road trip recommendations? (PA->WA)
Hey guys, just learned about this subreddit and it seems like a great community! I’ll have to take some time to read other posts, but I figured that I’d make my own in the meantime.
I’m moving from Pittsburgh to Alaska starting 4/18 and I have 16 days to drive up to Bellingham where I’ll catch a ferry to Juneau! I plan on hitting the bourbon belt in KY and then St. Louis my first few days and then it’s open after that (I’m avoiding Chicago and Southeastern states since I’ve already been).
I originally planned on leaving STL to check out Mt Rushmore, the badlands, Yellowstone, and glacier national park (on my way to Portland), but from what I’ve read it’s not a great time to visit those locations since they’ll likely be full of snow and difficult to hike or drive. I plan on scratching GNP but not sure if I should keep Yellowstone or not - any recommendations? I’d be there after 4/20.
I’m also not opposed to scratching Yellowstone to explore other hiking spots / national parks in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado (already spent time in Denver and loved it!), and Utah/Wyoming/Oregon but I’m not sure which attractions are most appropriate for late April traveling. I’ve heard great things about the John Day fossil beds. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
