Planning a solo trip to Central America, I have about £6000 and plan on doing workaways, working in bars and hostels etc. to prolong my stay. My question is - Where do I start? What would be the typical backpacker routes/trails? More questions inside.
As per the title -
I'm going to work for a month or two at a time between travelling in exchange for free accommodation, food etc. and am more than likely flying from Dublin into Panama, unless of course someone has a better suggestion.
I should note that I've travelled a lot previously, done several trips 2 years and upwards, just never made it to Central America.
Now I mentioned I was going to be working to prolong my stay but more out of interest than anything, how much would a backpacker spend in a month there, should they be travelling and not working? What are the more expensive/cheaper countries?
Are there lots of western backpackers there in the same way you find find backpackers in SE Asia?
I'm a photographer so I like anything that I can take photographs of, not necessarily always pretty views but perhaps just things that are out of the ordinary. I also enjoy the occasional beer or two but I'm by no means a heavy drinker.
I'm thinking of doing my scuba diving instructors cert, where would be the best place to do this and how much would it cost? note that I have no previous diving experience.
Are people there out to scam you like they would be all over Asia?
Is it important to know Spanish or can you get by fine without it?
Is it as easy to get jobs in hostels there as it is in Asia? - In Asia you really just need to be a western person with a grasp of English to get a job in a hostel in my experience.
Is it a thing to motorbike around Central America? If so is there a standard bike that backpackers who do this would get? (In Vietnam for example it's a Honda Win and the average price is $200)
