Hi friends,

I'm embarking on a work trip to Tegucigalpa, Honduras next week and it appears as though I'll have my last weekend free of work-related responsibilities. As a professional specializing in international development, I assure you I am well-versed on the safety and security risks in Tegucigalpa but was hoping to escape the city during my final weekend there and see some of Honduras's natural beauty. Here are my questions:

Can anyone recommend any short trips (preferably day trips) from Tegucigalpa? I'm an avid hiker and lover of all things outdoors. I've heard good things about La Tigra national park...any other must-sees? Are there any reasonably-close beaches I could make it to? I live in the northeast US so I'm looking to maximize my time in the warmth.

For some added context, I'm an experienced solo female traveler in my 20s and I'm fluent in Spanish. I spent about 10 months of 2016 living in northern Nicaragua and traveled through Guatemala and Belize, so I'm somewhat familiar with the region.

Also, if anyone has any general recommendations for restaurants/activities in Tegucigalpa itself, please don't hold back!
