Anyone driven to Tuktoyaktuk?
Also posted in /r/overlanding. I'm planning an extended roadtrip from the southeastern US to Alaska starting in June. I'm looking at driving to Tuktoyaktuk. I'm not on a time crunch and it looks amazing. Plus if I go to the arctic ocean in Alaska I have to get on a tour bus, etc.
My only concern is my vehicle. I have a 2014 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner, which means 2WD and 4 cylinder engine. Its in great shape. Its not beefy but its a great road trip vehicle. I have a spare tire and one matching tire, I'm used to carrying extra gas and water, and I typically sleep in the back (used to use a tent but now have a camper shell). I've read mixed messages on whether or not you need a four wheel drive for the trip. I'd hate to miss it, but I'd hate to mess up my Taco even more.
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. I'm not on a time crunch other than winter. However, I need to stick to destinations that are reachable by automobile.
