Air Travel Question With Large Hiking Backpack
Hello! I was wondering how everyone travels with their large hiking backpack. I have an adventitious trip planned to bike the countryside of Ireland this summer and I just purchased this:
My concern is that if my pack gets lost during travel I will be completely hosed. I will have many key items that will help me along my way while biking and it would be very costly to replace on the fly. I only have one exchange in Boston during my initial air travel. I will only be in Dublin for 3 days before venturing out so if they find it after those 3 days I will not be able to be there to pick it up.
Can I check my backpack (marginally full @ 35lbs) at the gate in order to ensure it is on my flight or will I be forced to check it in right when I get to the airport?
Has anyone experienced an issue like this or am I totally overthinking this concern?
Thanks for any insight!
