19-Hour Layover in Iceland. What to do on a budget?!

Hello everyone. I’m planning a 2 week trip to Europe in late September and have already booked a flight into Brussels with WoW Air. I’ll be having a 19 Hour layover in Keflavík International Airport and need some suggestions on how to spend my time. I’ll be arriving at 10:55 am and leaving at 6:15am the following day. I’m traveling on a budget with carryon luggage, would I be able to wander around Reykjavik during the day and go back to the airport at night and sleep outside the gate?? Or Should I just book a hostel and wake up early in the morning. Would really like to take advantage of this short time, are there any tours you’d recommend or would my time be better spent in the city? Thanks
