Just a reminder that place info/ratings sites (e.g. Nomadlist) aren't perfect

I've noticed Nomadlist getting a lot of attention in various travel and digital nomad communities online. I hadn't checked it out in a while and so I went to see how my old digital-nomading stop of Oaxaca fared in their rankings. Well according to nomadlist, Oaxaca gets a 1.91/5. 1.91 out of 5, to me, sounds like a place I would avoid. If someone was choosing where to work/live in Mexico, they should apparently go with Cancun (4.26/5) over Oaxaca.

It's odd to see a place that you so thoroughly enjoyed get such a low 'objective' ranking from a respected site like NomadList. Oaxaca (for me) was this amazingly chill base with good food, yoga, hiking, dancing, friends/community, Mezcal, beach trips, mountain trips, culture, biking, and you name it. The internet was spotty at times and the nightlife limited, but 1.91 out of 5?! And Cancun? Seriously? I've spent a year total in Mexico and never met one backpacker/DNer who liked Cancun. My point here isn't really to defend Oaxaca and say why you should love it. My point is to say be careful of trusting sites like NL.

Your mileage will likely vary quite a bit in different places. One person's paradise is another person's 'meh' or 👎. Sites like NL, Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc. are flawed aggregations of one population's take on different places. I'm sure Barcelona (4.94) is a lot easier to DN in than Port-au-Prince (.97) but I would really recommend some caution in taking these sorts of sites too seriously. This is a limited set of data from a small sample of people.
