How important is ethical solo travel to you?
Like the title says. Inspired by comments the other day on visiting North Korea. I'm curious - how much do you consider the ethical implications of where and how you solo travel?
- Would you visit places where people are oppressed, abused, and/or where human rights violations happen? (dictatorships, illegally occupied territories, threatened minority areas, etc.)
- Would you interact with animals without knowing how well they are treated? (visiting zoos, horseback riding, falconry, etc.)
- Do you research ahead of time to find out how foreign tourists are expected to behave?
- Do you make any efforts to spend your money in local and/or sustainable businesses?
- Do you consider environmental issues when planning activities?
