Hello all,

I have followed this forum for a few months (great subreddit among other travel related pages).

Here goes:

I am 32 Have a well paying job ($80k+ a year, working in data analysis) I have a house (mortgaged) I look after my ill mum as I am the only one in her life Saved up around $20k to travel the world Saved up another $20k which can take care of the house bills for a year or so while my mum lives there if I travelled for a year. Have worked for 10 years now since graduation, and nearly 18 years if I take into account studying while working in my teens

But I worry about: Not being able to find similar high paying work (I work in IT) if I take a year out and travel the world. Worry that employers will see this as a big gap in my career? Worry that my skills will become out of date after a long time of not working.

There are two big goals remaining in my life before I get married and settle down: A) Get ripped body wise (already working on that for this year) B) Travel the world and take a mental break after working and studying non-stop for the last 15 years.

What would be your advice? I write in the hope that someone can related and share some advice with me.

I am willing to share more in your replies if you have any questions.

Thank you in advance for trying to help me.
