Europe in 3-4 weeks
Hi Solo Travelers!
Long time lurker here. I'm planning a 3-4 week solo trip to Europe. I'd like to arrive there in mid-late Sept. The main purpose of the trip is to visit family in Croatia which I will be spending 1-1.5 weeks in. The rest of it is up in the air. I have a rough draft of a plan and I'm just looking for any insight, suggestions, or critique.
About me: Single 29 year old male English speaker. I'm fairly outgoing and like to go with the flow but also like to make sure I get the best bang for my buck which is why I'm doing a bit of research beforehand. I love nature, history, and am an avid photographer. I'll mention 2 other specific hobbies only because there are unique opportunities in Europe which I'll mention further down: Cars and shooting(competitively)/firearms. Oh, I should also mention that this will be my first time in Europe so I'd like to stick to major cities for the most part.
Budget: $4,000ish USD not including airfare
Tentative Plan: This will be a eastern European trip for the most part. Here is a breakdown of the countries I'm thinking. I chose these cities for a few reasons but one big consideration is the order in which I list these. Geographically, this travel route makes some sense.
Germany
-
Frankfurt (1 full day): For this plan I would likely fly into Frankfurt. Not sure exactly what I want to do here but it seems like a good jump of point for Stuttgart.
-
Stuttgart (1-2 days): I want to visit the Porsche museum and take a factory tour. It being Oktoberfest season, I hear Stuttgart is a great alternative to Munich...
-
Munich: (1-2 days): Main objective here is to experience 1 night of "real" Oktoberfest.
Czech Republic
-
Pilsen (0.5 day): The Pilsner Urquell Brewery: Pilsen is on the way to Prague...
-
Prague (3 days): I've always been infatuated with this city. The obvious sites are Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and Old Town Square. I'd really like to take my time here and potentially stay a day longer.
-
Brno (0.5 day): A firearm manufacturer is located here and I'd like to tour the factory.
Austria
- Vienna (3 days): I'm told this is a good city to just explore...
Hungary
- Budapest (3 days): Don't really know much about Budapest but I hear it has a similar old world charm that Prague has but less touristy.
Croatia
A lot to do here in 1.5 weeks, I've been loaded with recommendations from family and friends. I'm open to suggestions but I'm most confident about this leg.
-
Zagreb
-
Karlovac
-
Rijeka
-
(Mt) Velebit
-
Zadar
-
Split
-
Dubrovnik
Final Thoughts Well that's it for the most part. Being that I haven't been to Europe or traveled for this (extended) amount of time nor traveled solo, I really don't know if I'm spreading myself too thin. One thing I think I am underestimating is travel time between cities. Haven't done any point to point travel research but I hope trains will take me a lot of the way mostly so I can relax and see everything between cities. One other stop I've seriously considered is Amsterdam but it is slightly out of the way and I'm not sure how I would fit it in or if I'd even have time. Anyways, thanks for reading!
