Travel Advise: Lots of short trips OR try for a big blowout trip but maybe have to join the real world again?
Okay Reddit, Long story short I have the opportunity to buy the business I work for or let someone else buy it and be out of a job in about a year. If i decide to buy, I work from home/laptop and work maybe 20 hours a week making very good money. I can take frequent 3/4 day weekends, a few week-long vacations/year and maybe every other year a 3-4 week vacation by hiring in a former employee to cover 'short term'. I would be very comfortable but also somewhat tied down to a 'normal' life. OR I can be out in a year and do major long term travel, maybe work for an international aid organization etc. I would be much less financially stable. Considerations: if I can take a month off every other year, I can definitely see a lot and be confident I can keep traveling money wise. Maybe I'd quit and take a 6 month trip and not like going for that long (longest I've traveled is 2 months). And if I have to get a 'real' job again, nothing will beat the set up I'd have if I buy, especially if I hire someone in a few years to do most of the work OR live frugally and posssssibly retire at 35/40. Thoughts?? At first thinking of 'freedom' in a year was very intriguing, but I don't want to underestimate the freedom buying would also give me. Slightly less time-freedom, but much more money-freedom and on a longer more sustainable timeline. Thanks for opinions!
