Hi, I’m hoping for some information on the rules regarding hiring or buying scooters in south east Asia (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, etc.) a scooter seems to be the best way to get around here.

I’m reading a lot of different stuff online so hoping for someone who has been and knows the exact rules.

Currently, I don’t have a driving license or motorbike license (UK).

I’m wondering in most cases what do you need to be able to get a scooter/moped?

Do you need a motorbike license?

Do you only need a car license?

Or do they not care so much and will hire you one without any proof of license, with the only issue being insurance problems?
