Renting an apartment in large Latin American city, need help choosing. Buenos Aires?
28 yo male from the US. My goal is to improve my Spanish and meet locals. My Spanish is pretty decent. I am not sure a language course is what I need. I can have a conversation about anything. I recently dated for a few months a Mexican girl while in Baja California Sur that didn't speak any English and never had a problem with communication. But Im far from fluent.
My only experience with a hostel is that I worked at hostel for a couple weeks in Baja. I was disappointed with how everyone spoke English. Also I got burnt out on the social scene, constantly meeting new people. So I think renting an apartment for a few months in Latin American country would be a great change of pace. I've also been camping on a remote beach in Baja for the past few months and I'm ready for something else.
When I was 17 I lived in Santiago, Chile for 10 months. I honestly didn't like Santiago that much. Too much pollution. The only other cities that have crossed my mind are Buenos Aires and Mexico City. I know Mexico City is famous for it's pollution so I'm leaning toward Buenos Aires. But most apartment places want at least 3 months minimum. Maybe I'll get bored and I will regret it?
I really haven't thought this much through, so if anybody has any comments, even tangentially related, I'd really appreciate any input to help me think. I'm a little worried about being bored or lonely. But, not too worried. Couch surfing events, tinder, bars, music events. I'm pretty sure I can get sufficient social interaction.
