Planning a 18 day trip from Austin, TX to South Dakota (Badlands and Black Hills) in the fall

Hello, I’ve put together a rough itinerary on where to stay but wanted to see if anyone had opinions on staying too long or short in one area in South Dakota. We will be driving a motor home and be bringing a tow vehicle. Our two dogs will be tagging along. We enjoy hiking, fishing, and visiting breweries.

Also, anyone have an opinion on the campgrounds in Custer SP? I was eyeing Blue Bell campground but the sites don’t look as level. I’d rather not stay in a campground that’s more like a parking lot and Blue Bell seems to be more what we are looking for. I’m not opposed to staying outside of the park either but I’d rather be more spread out from my neighbors.

I thought after staying in Custer SP we could head up to Spearfish to be near Spearfish Canyon and closer to Devils Tower to make a day visit.

Austin to Amarillo Amarillo to Goodland, KS Goodland, KS to Badlands (2 nights) Badlands Badlands to Custer SP (6 nights) Custer Custer Custer Custer Custer Custer to spearfish (3 nights) Spearfish Spearfish Spearfish to Ft Collins (3 nights) Fort Collins Fort Collins Fort Collins to Lubbock Lubbock to Austin
