It might not be the most important thing, but, in my short time so far staying in hostels it's something I would recommend....

Buy a universal plug for a sink!!

The 3 hostels I've stayed in so far haven't had one and it's been a pain in the ass to wash clothes by hand. I would love some tips on how you guys manage without filling the sink up with soapy water, but I find it hard to give my clothes a half decent wash except for spot cleaning.
