Less obvious cities to visit in the US or Canada.
Some time in late August I'd like to go on a trip of the US and Canada, nothing too long, around 3 weeks or so, 10 days of which I'd like to spend in San Francisco and Vancouver, leaving around 10-12 days for other places.
I'm looking for places that are relatively cheap, not necessarily anywhere obscure or unknown, but places I may not think to consider. I'd also need to go somewhere that's either walkable, or has passable public transit, as I don't drive. Other than that, I'm quite open minded, if a city has a decent rock/metal scene and/or some natural beauty near by, that would be a plus, but it's not required.
