Help planning Portugal/Spain trip in April (25F)

Hi everyone!

I am now finally in the planning phase of my Portugal/Spain trip... I will be arriving in Lisbon early April and then have a flight out of Barcelona back to Canada about 2.5 weeks from then.

Ideally I want to do a week and a couple days in both countries. I am just in the planning stages now so I'm open to any suggestions. I am especially looking for hostel recommendations, I like to be social and definitely don't want to be in a huge hostel. I like smaller ones where you can easily get to know people, encourages outings (pub crawls or even dinner at the hostel etc.)

For Portugal I know I want to go to Porto but seems like there and Lagos are on opposite sides. Otherwise, I am pretty open. Spain I definitely want to check out Madid and Barcelona, I am thinking maybe Seville. I also have a friend who wants to meet up in Barcelona but has to do it kind of early so I was thinking of maybe going to Barcelona and then doing a short trip to another city nearby - maybe for a night or two and then come back for my flight. Any ideas?

I also want to rent a car and drive a bit in Portugal (I have my full license here in Canada).. I've heard driving along the coast is really pretty and is also an experience I've never had (me driving at least). not sure if anyone has any experience with this!

I solo travelled throughout Europe for a month when I was 23 so I'm pretty comfortable doing this sort of stuff. I'm really into history and art however in Spain I would love to spend at least one day at the beach! I feel like I'm going to be enjoying more of the natural beauty in Portugal (I really want to enjoy the coast and be near the water) while really going into the history of Spain, Spanish painters. I'm not as well-versed about Portuguese history but would love recommendations on maybe castles, museums, etc. that would be informative and interesting. I love going on walking tours, walking around the city, leisurely eating at restaurants and people watching, typical solo travel stuff I think :P I try not to take transit too much but obviously if you gotta you gotta.

Thanks so much :) feel free to ask questions,
