Help me plan my first solo trip to Spain and Morocco!
So I'm planning to hit up Spain and Morocco for 4-6 weeks as a college graduation present to myself, but I'm a bit ignorant of how solo travel and backpacking work. All my trips until now have always been fairly close - I think the furthest I've been away from my home in west Texas is either Vancouver or Cancun - and always with someone else.
I was thinking I would fly into Barcelona in early June, take a day trip to Girona and Portbou, then take the high-speed train to Madrid. After maybe three or four days there, I would move southwards, passing through Toledo, Granada, and Malaga. I would then cross the strait of Gibraltar by boat and land in Tangier, Morocco.
From Tangier, down to Chefchaouen and Fes. Maybe Meknes, but I'm not sure if that's worth visiting. Then west to Rabat and Casablanca, and south to Marrakesh. From there, I would want to do the 3-day Sahara camel tours that take you through Ouarzazate. After finishing that, I would set off to Essaouira. Then return to Marrakesh once again and probably catch a flight to Seville.
Few days in Seville, then cross the border into Portugal and fly back home from Lisbon.
Is this too much to do in 4-6 weeks? Too little? Is there something along the way I should definitely not miss out on? I for sure want to see the Alhambra and Alcazar, and Volubilis in Morocco.
What should I expect when it comes to the locals? I'm 22/M and Hispanic, although I've been mistaken for Middle Eastern quite a bit. I grew up speaking Spanish and have quite a bit of education in French, so hopefully the language barriers won't be much of an issue.
Also, as a bit of an aside, has anyone ever bought hashish in Chefchaouen?
