Friend judged solotravel, then realized how bad traveling with others are

Before I headed out on my solo trip, I posted a receipt on social media boasting about the absurd deal I got to travel. Then I got a response from a college classmate saying that he grabbed the deal as well. We arranged to eventually meetup for a day, but he questioned, “wait...are you traveling alone?” “Yes” “ok, that’s weird, doesn’t it get lonely?”

Flash forward to the trip itself. When we meet up I ask why he’s alone. He said that the girl (another classmate) ditched him and actually changed her plans to stay longer in the country. In addition those two were fighting about schedules, personal space, and mocking him in front of other girls he was trying to hit on at their hostel.

It seemed to shock and depress him that he would have to travel alone for the remaining 2-3 days. He desperately tried to meetup with others via tinder, insta, community posts, and such.

I tried to cheer him up saying, you just realized the best part of traveling solo, not having to deal with other people’s drama, and enjoying the things you want to do.

I haven’t heard back from him yet since I left him, but hopefully he saw the light.

Side note: Traveling with others as in people who have never traveled together before, or have not yet learned they are incompatible.
