First time solo-travel in Europe, t-minus 6 days!
TLDR: All planned: I'll be in Eastern Europe from Jan. 15 - Mar. 7!
Howdy folks,
Been lurking here the past few months as I've been planning my trip and absorbing oodles of inspiration from all of you and your adventures -- thank you for sharing your experiences, lessons learned, advice, fun stories, mishaps, and on and on!
Since you've all been so open and helpful, I want to share my trip (before, during, and after) to help contribute to the community.
Quick bio/overview: 29/m. First time traveling solo in Europe (though I've done solo trips in the U.S. before). The past few years have been centered around purposefully trying new types of experiences (such as taking a pause from startups to farm in 2017) in order to challenge previously held and/ or unexplored notions of mine. I've always wanted to see more of the side of Western civilization across the pond but have held back in the past (lesson learned number 1: just buy the damn plane ticket!). Moreso, I became intrigued with Eastern Europe, diving into some of the history of the Balkans, Ottomans + Habsburgs, and reading fiction from Hungary, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Romania, etc. -- also because it seems like a relative bargain compared to other parts of the continent.
Anywho, here's the trip:
1/15 - 1/17: Brussels 1/17 - 1/19: Ljubljana 1/19 - 1/22: Zagreb 1/22 - 1/26: Sarajevo 1/26 - 1/29: Belgrade 1/30 - 2/28: Budapest 2/28 - 3/4: Krakow 3/4 - 3/6: Warsaw 3/7: Brussels/ Home
As you'll notice, one of these is not like the others: I'll be spending a month in Budapest (working on another goal of mine: writing a short story). For some reason the idea of writing in the morning, exploring in the afternoon, and settling into a hot spring in the evening seems super idyllic (we shall see).
So yup, that's that. If you'll be around any of these places and want to meet up, let me know!
Happy traveling, - Aaron
