Considering a venture to France.
Okay, so for reasons that aren't really necessary to get into, I need to get away for awhile. I've always wanted to take some time to live somewhere else (again), and would like to do so in (probably) the south of France. I was curious if anyone had any specific suggestions of cities they enjoyed.
I'd really like to just setup shop for a bit in a mid-sized city: big enough that I won't have too much trouble, but small enough that it can become somewhat familiar. I know some French and Spanish, but it's been awhile since I've used either of them. I've also traveled by myself before to some extent: I lived in England for a few months as a student, and last year I went to Vietnam/Thailand with my ex-girlfriend.
Some extra details: I'm in my late, late 20s and I am a freelance developer that has a part-time, open-ended contract with a company in the US that will provide me with plenty of money to sustain myself while giving me the option to do something else as well, if I want; be that more dev work, or something completely different I feel like picking up.
I assume during parts of the trip I will travel other places as well, but I really would like to just hang out and get to know a city. I have yet to decide how long I will stay. At this point it honestly could be anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months (or perhaps even longer if I really wanted to stay, who knows).
Anyway, I'm mostly looking for ideas on where I should perhaps look into, but any other information would be great. I just found this sub and figured it could be quite helpful.
