Camera gear in central america? Safety, problems with customs.
Hey people!
I am going to backpack again after not having done it for a few years. I am 30 years old and work as a freelancer in video production. This summer I am planning to go to central america and make a documentary there. I haven't planned out the story yet, but it will be a combined holiday with filming. But I have some expensive gear and want to hear you guys thoughts regarding safety, but also potential problems with customs. I come from Europe and will do a stopover in New York and then fly to Cancun and visit every country down to Panama. This is the gear I am bringing.
- Nikon D750
- Nikon lens 24-105
- Sigma art(either 35mm or 50mm)
- Nikon lens (50-300mm for photography)
- Rødemic videomic go
- Røde wireless filmmaker kit
- Tascam dr-70d
- Tripod
- Gorillapod
- Monopod
- DJI Osmo Mobile with an iPhone X on it
- Syrp genie mini
- Panasonic camcorder (a three year old one, but will be a backup camera or in less safe areas)
- Macbook Air with two hard drives.
- DJI Mavic Pro (not sure if I bring this, saw the thing about the guy that got it confiscated in Nicaragua, but got it back)
Will I encounter too much problems? I will travel by land from Cancun to Panama. I will of course have insurance. Any other tips from travel in that region, especially regarding safety or crossing borders.
