24 y/o Female traveler looking into first solo trip and feeling very unsure...
I have always wanted to travel to Europe and tried for years to convince someone to start saving and join me to no avail. I started thinking about solo travel after my coworker went on a trip with EF College Break, which she really enjoyed. I looked into the company, fully intending to book through them and I just felt.... not right about it/them. Maybe I’m totally wrong, but I felt like I wouldn’t get the trip and experience I want with such a structured tour with so many other people for the price. Now I’m thinking about going all in and planning a trip by myself and staying in hostels. The places I’m thinking of going for my first trip would be England, Ireland and Scotland (not sure on cities yet and potentially just two of those countries to start off easy for my first trip). I have almost no experience with public transport, so figuring out how to navigate it in those countries seems daunting and I have never stayed in a hostel and don’t really know where to start with finding safe ones with a good atmosphere. What has everyone’s experience been with public transport in those countries and ease of use/navigation? Is HostelWorld the best place to find places to stay? To other female solo-travelers, do you generally feel safe when staying in hostels?
