Vietnam advice: already booked plane ticket starting on first day of Tet (Chinese New Year)... but have since found out everything is dead. What to do?
As the title says, I recently booked a trip I was super excited to finally get to do.
Flying in to SGN (Ho Chi Minh City) on Feb 16, flying home from BKK (Bangkok) on Feb 26.
Unfortunately... I've since found out that Feb 16 is the start of Tet, the Vietnamese New Year celebration, for which locals travel home to their villages to spend time with family and friends.
This means, unfortunately, that it's difficult to get around; museums, restaurants, and markets are closed, etc.
What should I do???
My plan has always been to travel to an intermediate destination before spending a handful of days in Thailand. So I'm now thinking about flying out of SGN to a country that doesn't celebrate the lunar new, or at least celebrates it without shutting down the city (HKG? SIN? KUL?)
What would y'all do? Has anyone traveled to Ho Chi Minh city during Tet before? Would you do it again?
