My (almost) 2 week Nicaragua itinerary
I am planning a (almost) 2 week trip to Nicaragua in February. For previous solo travel I have done, I tend to just show up to a place, and usually stay in the one city or just do day trips. I'm feeling a little more confident and adventurous and would like to see more of Nicaragua instead of just staying in one city. Here is my current schedule:
- February 7th- Leave Detroit to fly into Managua
- February 8th- Arrive in Managua at 2am. Based on my research, there isn't much to do or see in Managua, and I should plan on just flying in and getting out. As a solo female traveler, I am a bit wary about finding a cab or my way to somewhere to stay at 2am, so I was thinking of just hanging in the airport till 6 or 7am, taking a taxi to UCA, then a bus to Granada. I plan on arriving in Granada in the early morning, and despite being tired, just exploring the city a bit.
- February 9th- day trip from Granada to Laguna de Apoyo
- February 10th- day trip from Granada to Volcan Masaya
- February 11th- Wake up early, bus to San Jorge (Rivas), take the ferry to Omepete
- February 12th- Full day on Omepete
- February 13th- Ferry back to San Jorge, 3 hour bus ride to Leon, explore Leon
- February 14th- full day in Leon
- February 15th- Take chicken bus to Las Penitas
- February 16th- Las Penitas for most the day, then bus back to Leon
- February 17th- Bus from Leon to San Juan del Sur
- February 18th- Sunday Funday in San Juan del Sur- I've seen mixed reviews about Sunday Funday. A huge party sounds fun, but also exhausting and I'm not sure if this is this is the best use of my time. I'm considering spending more time somewhere else and just skipping San Juan del Sur.
- February 19th- Half day in San Juan del Sur, then bus to Managua
- February 20th- Flight leaves at about 3am back to Detroit
I'm just looking for any critiques or advice- should I skip any of that? Is it too much busing around and am I not giving myself enough time? Is there anything missing you would recommend in place of something? Thank you in advance for any advice! I am SO excited for my next adventure!
