Luang Prabang to Chiang Rai by slow boat - itinerary too tight?
I am currently travelling in Laos and after a couple of days sick with food poisoning, I am running behind my schedule a bit. My new schedule is much tighter than I would prefer, so I am hoping to get an opinion from someone who has done the trip.
Dec 7 Day one slow boat from Luang Prabang to Pak Beng Dec 8 Day 2 Slow boat to border. Preferably somehow getting to Chiang Rai but I know I may be too late for the bus and if I do not find anyone to share a taxi I need to spend the night in the border town Dec 9 Flight Chiang Rai to Bangkok 2pm. All good if I get there the evening before, but might be tight if I need to get a bus in the morning. Dec 10 Flight to Europe from Bangkok
Is that too crazy? I am mainly worried about getting from the boat to Chiang Rai in the evening. Has anyone done that before? If I take the morning bus, is it reliable enough to get my flight at 2? (bonus if I can see the white temple)
If I take the speed boat the 2nd day, would that work? I heard it is dangerous though so I am not sure about that.
Other option is to leave a day earlier and spend a full day in Chiang Rai. I can do this if I have to but my time in Luang Prabang is already much shorter than planned and I am meeting my best friend there who I have not seen in a long time.
