Looking for suggestions for affordable weekend getaways in the US! Any help?
I am a foreign graduate student currently living near Stanford University. I love traveling but unfortunately I don't have insane amounts of money to spend or time either - grad school is tough and keep me busy most of the time; however, this is my first time in the US and I haven't visit a lot of places, so I'm really trying to make the most of my time here and visit as many different and cool places as possible. One of my goals is actually to try and visit all 50 states in two years, but I know that that's not a very realistic goal! haha :) I am already planning to go on a 12-day trip through 4 East Coast cities in late March (Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington), so I'll finally get to see some of the East coast and not just the West coast.
I am currently looking for suggestions for quick and affordable weekend getaways, mainly for long weekends (like 3-day weekends) that will happen a couple of times this year - the first one is already in January (Martin Luther King day!), so I need to hurry and choose! In these small trips I am mostly looking to go to places that aren't too far away from the West coast (I don't want to fly more than 3 hours or so). I have already been to San Francisco (obviously), as well as Portland and Seattle, so I'd like to visit others places. Also, I do not have a car, so I would always have to fly or take the train there.
What places to you recommend me going to?
Thank you! :)
