Hey folks! I am going on a cross-country road trip within a pretty tight time frame due to life/circumstances. My friends and I will be traveling from Austin, TX on January 5th to arrive in Las Vegas, NV on the 8th. In between we want to see some cool stuff, and stay the night in a few places on the way. Ideas thrown out are heading northwest to White Sands NM--> Santa Fe or Taos; or heading straight north then west to see Amarillo & Route 66. Eventually we'd like to see Monument Valley--> the Grand Canyon before hitting LV. We know it will be cold and want to stay in a few towns en route, but we don't mind driving long-ish distances (esp. if the activities/sights are worth it).

So, if you were making this 3/4 day voyage, what would your route be? What would you absolutely not miss? Where would you stay/what are some cool/interesting in-between towns? Haven't traveled in this region so would love some suggestions
