How nervous were you about your first solo trip?
Hey guys
So I'm 24, from the UK and have just graduated from university. I have £23,000/$31,000 saved up, and decided earlier in the year I wanted to go travelling. My cousins girlfriend is Chilean, and highly recommended South America. She's been to most of South America and loved it. Also my brother travelled around SEA and recommended that - so I'm hoping to do around 6 months in each. Nothing is really planned - except for my flight to Recife (Brazil). Then I plan to go down through Brazil, to Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Columbia. Before going to Asia
About a month ago, I was ridiculously excited and couldn't wait. However, a month from leaving, I'm incredibly nervous and thinking I've made a huge mistake. I've been on holidays by myself and 4 years at a university 4 hours from home - but nothing like this!
All sorts of things are running through my head. Am I going to get mugged as soon as I get out the airport at Brazil? Various people telling me what a shithole South America and how everyone apparently gets robbed. How do I pay for things, cash or card? Why didn't I choose to fly into a typical tourist destination like Rio?
I know it sounds ridiculous, but so much stuff is running through my head. Which is weird because even a month ago - I wasn't overthinking like this.
How nervous were you before your first solo trip? When I'm working my shitty job as a stop gap before I go, I know I'd way prefer to be travelling and it's a great opportunity - I just can't stop thinking about the worst
