What piece of advice has saved you while traveling?
Literally or metaphorically--and what's the story?
My life-saving advice came from an eleven-year-old child in Mongolia who said "If you see dogs, pick up rocks." Wut. "No, really. If you see dogs, pick up rocks."
Turns out Mongolian dogs are territorial assholes and people fend them off by throwing rocks at them. Just the act of picking up a rock (or pretending to) was enough to scatter angry, aggressive dogs.
That piece of advice has since saved me from attacking dogs in Thailand, Azerbaijan, Mexico, and Morocco. Thanks, small Mongol child!
Some animals were harmed in the making of this post. Said animals were also going for the jugular, so fuck them.
