First time backpacking, first time travelling solo Central and South America
Hi everyone, I'm currently saving money for my first solo backpacking trip and plan on jumping in the deep end. I'm a 22 year old guy from Australia planning a open ended trip through Central and South America. I was hoping someone here might have done something similar and could give me some more info.
I plan on starting my trip in Mexico city and heading south from there (is this the typical trail or is it more common to travel south to north) I plan on visiting every country in Central America except for El Salvador as from what I've read there isn't a whole lot going on there, however it's not completely ruled out if someone can change my mind, and most of South America. Ideally I'd like to time it right so I'd be in Chile for a bit of the ski season. I've done some reading up on what I want to see and do but if anyone has done some lesser known things that were good I'm open to everything.
If anyone here has done something similar and could give me some tips on what to look out for, budget (for 12 months), places/things not to miss, knowing very minimal Spanish or any general tips for solo travel through Central and South America.
