Thanks to your help I have cut down my itinerary for SE Asia and am just doing Vietnam for 3 weeks. Before I was trying to tackle way too much.

I want to play it by ear and make my way slowly through some places and have the flexibility to change plans last minute or extend my stay. If it helps I’m currently looking at making stops in Sa Pa, Halong Bay, Hanoi, ho ain, da nang and Ho Chi Minh. I will be there for 24 days. Do I need to book accommodations now, or can I book stuff last minute when I know where I’m going to be?

Do a lot of people take a open minded approach to their itinerary or is it more common to have a rigid schedule?

For those who have travelled both organized and unorganized which did you prefer?
