Central America in Jan/Feb - Cuba?
I’m thinking of going to Belize/Guatemala in Jan/Feb before meeting my friends in Mexico City on feb 22. My time is flexible, so about 3-4 weeks. Im thinking of flying to Belize City, then going to one of the caye (not sure which one). I like diving, but not a lay-on-beach person. Not interested in drinking/partying either. I’m thinking caye Ambergris. Then going in land to San Ignacio for a few days before crossing to Guatemala. Tikal, Flores, then move south to Semuc Champey and to Antigua/Lake Atitlan before flying out to MEX.
Then I thought of Cuba, since it’s nearby, maybe I can visit it too? No convenient flight to Cuba from Belize or Guatemala though. I’m an American so not sure if I should travel direct to Cuba from US (similar ticket price vs Belize). Then from Cuba I’m not sure if there’s transport to Belize or I should fly to Cancun and travel south to Belize. I’ve spent time in Yucatán peninsula before, that’s why overland travel isn’t ideal. Anyone has experience about the Cuba travel portion? Maybe there’s a better route I can take? I feel slightly better to fly from non-US to Cuba just because I’m unsure of the rules since it’s been recently changed under Trump.
