3 Week Trip to Ecuador (Thanks)
Hi,
I've been a long time lurker of this subreddit, and I'd like to finally take a bit of time to thank everyone who has contributed to SoloTravel.
Two weeks ago I came back from my backpacking trip to Ecuador and a bit of Peru. I was really hesitant on going alone, and I was really scared of hating my life when I got there. I wasn't new to backpacking, but traveling alone was a whole new world to me. I'm making this post because I would like to share what travelling alone did to me.
I am now more confident than ever. Having to make every single decision for yourself, figuring things out in the middle of nowhere, without knowing the language nonetheless, made me feel so empowered. Because I was able to make my way all by myself was a feat for me.
I met so many great people over there; both locals and foreigners. I can say that most of the time I was not actually alone. I often traveled with other people I met for the day, for a few days, or even a week. These people were always like minded and loved to travel as well. I now have friends all over the world, and I hope to visit some of them someday. I also can never repay the kindness strangers/friends have given me. They've helped me in so many ways such as caring for me when I was sick, giving me directions, handing me maps, providing travel info, etc. I probably couldn't have made it without them.
All in all, I came back a new person. I enjoy my life so much more and someone even told me I was a lot more "worldly". This trip has enlightened me on so many ways.
Again, thanks for providing so much support and influence!
TDLR; I'm a lurker then went solo travelling. It changed my life and now I thank you all.
